WHAT IS CBD AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

CBD is shorthand for cannabidiol, one of the most prevalent chemical compounds in the cannabis plant, second only to THC. In hemp, however, CBD dominates the plant’s makeup, which is one reason we use hemp to derive our CBD. That, and CBD found naturally in non-psychoactive hemp is legal in the United States. Once extracted from the hemp plant, CBD is primarily consumed in oils, extracts, and crystals. It can be taken orally through drops, vaporized to smoke, or cooked into edibles. Hemp also provides nutrition that is tough to find elsewhere from just one source, such as essential amino acids and Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids.

CBD works by interacting with our naturally occurring systems, including the central nervous system, skin, digestive track, and the reproductive organs, to “unlock” cell receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). You see, the ECS affects just about every aspect of your health and wellbeing, from mood and memory to pain perception and motor control to appetite and sleep. Because CBD has a similar composition to chemicals the human body produces naturally, it can help the ECS with neuroprotection, stress recovery, immune balance, and homeostatic regulation (a fancy way of saying optimum energy balance).

HOW IS CBD DIFFERENT THAN THC?

Unlike THC, CBD is completely non-psychoactive, which means you can expect to relax with CBD, but you won’t feel intoxicated. In fact, CBD seems to act as a natural barrier against the “high” (and potential anxiety) associated with THC.but does not make people feel “stoned” and according to recent studies, counteracts Hyper-Sensitivity to THC in some cases. The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria some experience from High THC Cannabis. Scientific and clinical research—much of it sponsored by the US government—underscores CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrable neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING CBD?

Now to the good stuff—how can CBD help you?

  • Assist in the reduction of inflammation and swelling

  • Inhibit oxidation (CBD has antioxidant qualities)

  • Helps reduce anxiety

  • Alleviates depression

  • Relieve pain

  • Reduce vomiting and nausea

  • Reduce acne

  • Promote bone growth

  • Reduce seizures and convulsions

  • Reduce blood sugar levels

  • Reduce risk of artery blockage

And more! The effects of CBD on the body are thought to be broad and far-reaching. It is suspected to directly and indirectly affect the vanilloid receptors (important for pain modulation), adenosine receptors (important to the sleep-wake cycle), and serotonin receptors (important for mood and stress management).

                                                                                                   CBD FOR SPORTS

Most minds reject even attempting to calculate the expansive numbers of building athletes on an annual basis… and with good reason. Football is still America’s most active pastime – with over 1,088,000 participants in the sport from pee wee to professional. But outdoor track and field, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, cross-country, tennis, and swimming are close on its heels. Many sports run almost neck-in-neck in gender participation while volleyball, tennis, and swimming are dominated by females. Still, regardless of how much training a player has, a simple accident can lead to a lifetime of pain, suffering, and even early permanent retirement from the activity. But that doesn’t necessarily have to happen. In fact, science has recently discovered a link between athletic healing and CBD (Cannabidiol). But can cannabis really be the key to protecting and healing over seven million American athletes? First of All, What is CBD? The use of medical marijuana is a relatively new debate, especially considering cannabis is one of the oldest medicinal herbs known. In fact, religions and science alike can trace its use back to ancient times for both recreational and medicinal use. Yet, for over a century, scientists have focused solely on the negative aspects of the plant. The shift in Western society is so new that it’s taken media stage and confused a slew of people in the process. But the truth is, cannabis has always been beneficial for medicinal needs. Science just needed to narrow those findings down to meet political expectations.

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that affect neurotransmitters in the brain. There are More than 81 Active known cannabinoids in cannabis, and cannabidiol (CBD) is one that has been receiving a lot of medical and scientific attention. Why is that the case? Well, whereas marijuana contains a high amount of THC (the chemical responsible for the “high” or “stoned effect”), CBD can be derived from the hemp plant in high concentrations, with virtually no THC. Marijuana is a cannabis plant bred for high THC concentrations and hemp is now being bred for high CBD concentrations, but almost zero THC levels, and certainly below the illegal amounts. Which makes hemp CBD products safe as a medicinal aid for all ages and lifestyle needs. Ask any “stoner” or marijuana enthusiast why they’re pro-cannabis and you’ll end up with a myriad of answers. However, the top two are generally based on the “zoning out” or relaxing properties of the THC, and the natural element – meaning it’s among the safest recreational substances available. But marijuana is still a drug by definition, and it is still addictive with continued use. However, CBD derived from hemp isn’t addictive because of its anti-psychoactive properties. Yet its medical properties are still impressive when used correctly. How Does Cannabidiol Help Athletes? Lately, athletic associations and individual fitness fanatics have gotten on the CBD wagon. This goes beyond the common practice of smoking a joint to steady nerves before a big game. Science has proven that Hemp-based CBD reduces pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm. But that’s not all. Properly taken, CBD derived from hemp also reduces nausea and helps with sleep patterns or insomnia. But perhaps the biggest scientific result deals with CBD’s effect on the brain. Unlike THC which causes the brain chemistry to change and crave more of the drug itself, CBD (cannabidiol) actually protects the brain’s neurological function and improves healing speed after concussive injuries. While it may sound like a miracle cure, it’s very close. high-quality CBD must be taken properly and with proper intent to work correctly. But when those guidelines are met, post-routine CBD use can be tremendously effective for reducing athletic-related injuries and improving the healing process so you can get back to the game, and as always, please share these articles with others.                   (SPORTS ARTICLE WRITTEN BY RYAN EARLY OF Pure Cannaceuticals)
